Khirthar National Park
Baseline Environmental Study

Conclusions

The archaeological survey conducted during the September field season in Khirthar National Park produced a wealth of data relating to the long and continuing human utilisation of the park environment. Remains of prehistoric stone tool scatters, rock art, settlement sites, hydraulic works, massive defensive architecture and graveyards are all evidence for the richness of the park’s archaeological heritage. Much work remains to be undertaken, both in the field to extend our understanding of the extant material and in the laboratory and library, to enrich our understanding of the context of these riches. Strategies for managing this wealth of material must be developed to protect and preserve this ancient heritage for future generations of scientists and visitors alike.
