An area of 320463 hectares of Runn of Kutch was declared as Wildlife Sanctuary in 1980. It comprises portions of Badin and Tharparkar districts, part of Great Indian Desert. It mostly consists of sanddunes with intervening plains. During normal monsoon season in July and August, grasses grow profusely that provide high value feed for Wildlife.

Precious wildlife like peafowl, Sarus crane, Chinkara Gazelle, Blue bull, Pangolin, Wolf, Hyaena, desert cat, flamingoes and Wild ass are great source of attraction for the tourists. Besides the area is rich in coal and granite natural resources especially in Nagar Parkar hill range. Among the cultural resources, age-old Bhodesar mosque, temples for hindu worshipers and forts are worth mention.

That famous 'Marvi's well' Umar Marvi love story fame, can also be seen in the Runn of Kutch.
